Holy Week Part II: In the Meantime

On Sunday, He rode into Jerusalem amid a cheering crowd. On Thursday, He instituted the Lord's supper. But what about Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? What was Jesus doing, what was He thinking those last days? He knew what was coming. So how did He fill those days?

We know He dined at Simon the Leper's where "a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on His head" (Mark 14:3, NIV). He knew what was coming. What do you talk about at dinner when you know you will soon be executed?

A single verse in Luke tells us how Christ spent His last days before the ordeal of the cross. "Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening He went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives" (Luke 21:37, NIV). He knew what was coming. By day, He was about His Father's business. By night, He withdrew to be strengthened for the days ahead. Tonight, I pray for grace to follow His perfect example.

May you feel His grace today,
Gail W.

The last Word:
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2, NIV.

Gail, what a poignant reminder that it is only in His Presence that we can draw strength for the ordeal of the Cross. Christ went before us and showed us. But He was different, He knew what was coming, and could have stopped it, but knew He was about the Father's will and drew near to Him to endure what he must so that I am able to endure my cross.
Have a blessed Easter.
Love, Sita

OH, Gail.

Thank you for this.

this week, my heart is so tender. It seems I burst into tears over the least little thing.

We just came from our Maundy Thursday service, and it nearly did me in.

I love to think of His last days and how He showed His love so deeply.

He is so good.

He is so good.

Gail, thank you for sharing your insights and Scriptures regarding Easter. Outside of the last 2 years, Easter has only been about the bunny rabbit and I am so appreciating this wonderfully new perspective.

Gail,
so glad to have you back!

Wonderful post, he knew what was coming, he even asked the Father to take it from Him if possible, yet he endured the most painful suffering so that I would not have to

Love,
Tina

I pray to find my Father's stride accordingly. To work my daily portion and then to find my daily strength in Him...everyday!

Blessed Easter walk to you this weekend.

Gail, thank you so much for your kind words and for your visit to my blog. I so appreciate your encouragement.

I love the premise of your blog. Job 19:25 is one of my favorite verses. It speaks of the everlasting hope that is ours in Christ. We are singing a song tomorrow for Easter that is based on that scripture.

I look forward to getting to know you more. You are a very inspirational Christian woman.

Many Easter blessings to you!

In Christ's Love,

Andrea

Gail,
How awesome Easter week is. How amazing Jesus knows what's coming, but continues to teach and love and prepare his disciples for the time to come. I've been reading through the Easter story in the gospels and just have been soaking it all in.

I pray you have a blessed and joyful Easter.

He is risen!

I never took time to think what Jesus did between Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday, and your post opened my spiritual eyes in that direction. He gave the woman perform that prophetic act of pouring the jar of perfume on his feet, and his eye was focused on the goal... May I be more like Jesus, making each day count for eternity.

That was powerful, being reminded the way you did, that Jesus knew what was coming. You know, we really need not fear the future. We do not know what is coming, but God does, and he will see us through.
